Healthy Hair

My hair has grown close to 6 inches in about a year and a half.

I’m really excited about the progress and I’ve hit my first goal on length recently, and going to continue to grow it a little bit longer. I don’t use a lot of hair products; nutrition is a must, keeping heat off has helped my hair tremendously (I have thick wavy hair that I straightened all the time for years)…

If your goal is to grow your hair longer and you’re doubting on whether or not you can do it, I’m here to say YOU CAN!!

If I can do it, you can do it!!

This blog shares the highlights on what I do to support my hair!

FYI

Nutrition and Hair Health

The health of your hair is closely tied to your diet. Nutrients like biotin, vitamin D, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for healthy hair growth. Deficiencies in these nutrients can lead to hair thinning and loss.

Stress and Hair Loss

High levels of stress can trigger hair loss conditions like telogen effluvium, where hair follicles enter a resting phase, leading to noticeable shedding. Managing stress through mindfulness and relaxation techniques can help reduce this type of hair loss.

Scalp Health is Key

A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Scalp issues like dandruff, psoriasis, or excess oil production can impair hair growth and health. Regular cleansing, gentle exfoliation, and scalp massages can improve scalp health and promote hair growth.

The Impact of Hair Styling

Frequent use of heat tools (like straighteners and curling irons), chemical treatments, and tight hairstyles can cause hair damage, breakage, and loss over time. Protecting hair from heat and avoiding overly tight hairstyles can help maintain hair integrity.

Hydration and Hair

Just like your skin, your hair needs moisture to stay healthy. Drinking enough water and using hydrating hair products can prevent dryness, reduce frizz, and make hair more manageable.

Growing up and even into my 30s, I frequently used heat to straighten my hair. However, the constant heat took its toll, often leaving me with dry hair and endless split ends. I’ve never considered myself a “girly girl,” but having manageable hair has always been important to me. Unfortunately, my natural air-dried hair never looked good enough, in my opinion, to wear in public unless it was pulled back in a ponytail.

I remember as a freshman in high school, watching in envy as a teammate effortlessly double-French braided her hair in the car, without even needing a mirror. I tried to replicate that style many times, but I failed repeatedly and eventually gave up. It wasn’t until early 2023 that I finally succeeded in double-French braiding my hair for the first time! It was a game changer.

I’ve found that conditioning and then rinsing my hair with cold water makes a difference. Then, after applying the Mirah Hair Oil, braiding my hair when it’s damp not only keeps it out of my face but also creates beautiful, wavy hair when I take the braids out—no heat required!

Taking care of my hair at night has also become part of my routine. I never really thought about this before, but it makes sense—people have been using bonnets to protect their hair for ages, so I decided to give it a try. After about a year of wearing a bonnet at bedtime, I honestly don’t like going without it now. It keeps my hair out of my face, prevents me from lying on it, and helps maintain my style between washes. I highly recommend silk bonnets, along with scrunchies and pillowcases.

All of the products I use are from Young Living. Some are newer additions, but they’ve all become staples in my daily routine:

After washing my hair and having it wrapped in a towel for a few minutes, I comb out my hair and apply about 15-20 drops of Mirah Lustrous Hair Oil to the lower half of my hair.
