Reflexology & VitaFlex
The word reflexology is derived from the so-called “reflex-arc’ which refers to a neural pathway that controls an action reflex. Historically, reflexology finds its roots in many cultures around the world. In Egypt there is a wall carving in the tomb of Ankhmajor, who was the physician to the king at Saqqara. In China, ancient writings speak of a therapy where pressure is applied by the fingers to the feet, hands and ears. Eventually this evolved to the use of needles along energy lines sometimes called meridians.
In India, the footprints of Buddha and the feet of Vishnu have symbols representing life and the flow of energy to live life well. The Mayan civilization documented reflexology on stone carvings. Native American culture, particularly the Cherokee Nation, has documented success with balancing the body through treating the feet. Scientifically, roots can be found in Europe from as far back as the 1500’s where “zone therapy” was practiced.

Compared to Acupressure & Acupuncture:
The Chinese have practiced both acupressure and acupuncture for over 5000 years. They use the same pressure points and energy pathways, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle-to-firm finger pressure.
When acupressure points are stimulated, they release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood and enhance the body’s life force energy to aid healing.
Both acupressure and reflexology are bodywork techniques which involve applying pressure to specific points on the body for the purpose of addressing health complaints. Acupressure involves the whole body. Reflexology involves primarily the hands, feet, and ears, also head.
